Radio Harrow is much more than just playing music and getting out to our local community. As a health and wellbeing focused charity, we also provide a vital service to the patients staying in Northwick Park Hospital.

With about 150 volunteers aged between 16 – 90 years old, we visit over 15,000 patients a year, and help make their stay in hospital as comfortable as it can be.

For some patients, this can an incredibly lonely and frightening time, but our befriending service has been proven to enhance the quality of their hospital stay. Our volunteers are able to offer the following, all of which can lift a patient’s spirit and aid in their recovery.

  • Collecting song requests and playing them out live on the radio
  • Handing out free magazines and goody bags containing puzzles and other items to pass the time
  • Spending time with them to talk, listen or even play card games
  •  Including patients in fun live radio broadcasts
  • Providing patients with information about the other services they can receive such as the chaplaincy, library and hairdressers
