Radio Harrow tries to visit as many as 10,000 patients in Northwick Park Hospital a year. Our experience unfortunately (and unsurprisingly) shows that many hospital clients are bored and lonely, and some genuinely appreciate being approached for a quick chat and to make a song request on one our flagship shows, Harrow Today (on weekdays), the The Saturday Brunch or (on Sunday) The Radio Harrow Request Show. This also reflects the findings of research conducted by the Hospital Broadcasting Association, which found that it reassures and calms hospital users, makes them feel more individual, and lifts mood associated with loneliness and boredom.
We’re always armed with the latest Radio Harrow Magazine, which contains the latest tips on Healthy Living, as well as information on the services provided within the hospital (such as the hairdressing facilities) and a couple of puzzles.
We typically aim to collect patient requests at the following times:
However, we’re always able to play out requests and make dedications on your behalf, so if you don’t see a cheery clipboard-carrying volunteer at these times, please get in touch with the studio and tune in to Harrow Today to hear it played.
