Interview | Pinner Music Festival 2024

The highly anticipated Pinner Music Festival returns this June at the historic Pinner Parish Church. Running from Monday, June 10, the week long event promises a diverse array of performances that celebrate both local talent and world class artistry.

Professor Anthony Pinching, a central figure in the festival organization, shared insights into this year’s lineup. The festivities begin with an introductory seminar led by Petroc Trelawny of BBC Radio 3. This opener features a panel of musicians, including harpist Skaila Kanga and violinists Amber Emson and Madeleine Mitchell, offering audiences a preview of the upcoming programs.

A highlight of the week occurs on Tuesday evening with the Pinner Parish Church Choir. This performance honors the anniversary of composer Charles Villiers Stanford and includes solo items from gifted young musicians. On Wednesday, the Royal Academy of Music Harp Ensemble presents “Dancing with Harps,” a program featuring ballet music and a premiere by film composer Gavin Greenaway.

The festival also welcomes the Bozzini String Quartet on Wednesday evening, performing works by Mozart, Haydn, and Dvorak. Thursday’s lunchtime concert features violinist Amber Emson and pianist Leah Nicholson, showcasing a romantic repertoire.

The weekend concludes with a grand finale on Saturday, June 15. The Festival Choir and Orchestra, under the direction of Paul Jeanes, will perform Handel’s Coronation Anthems and Haydn’s Nelson Mass. This final performance highlights the deep communal and spiritual roots of the festival.

Tickets and full schedule details are available on the official festival website. Residents and visitors are encouraged to join this celebration of accessible and evocative music in the heart of Pinner.
