Riya’s Rainbows: Bringing Holiday Magic to Children

The local charity Riya’s Rainbows was established by parents Mukesh and Gita in memory of their daughter, Riya. Known for her caring and compassionate nature, Riya’s legacy continues through the organization’s dedication to providing hope and support to children and families facing difficult times.

Supporting Children Through Therapy and Play

The charity has successfully raised a phenomenal amount of money, specifically donating to Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) where Riya received care. Contributions include:

  • Music Therapy: £30,000 was donated to support healing through music, a passion of Riya’s.
  • Play Therapy: £20,000 went toward play therapy to help children communicate during their recovery.
  • Play Sensory Area: £80,000 supported the construction of a new sensory zone at the GOSH Cancer Centre.
  • Family Room Refurbishment: The charity kitted out an intensive care unit family room with new toys and games to support siblings.

Community and Holiday Magic

Beyond hospital support, Riya’s Rainbows partners with organizations like Grief Encounter and SLOW (Surviving the Loss of Your World) to provide counseling and workshops for grieving families. They also support local schools with essential items like hats, scarves, and equipment for forest school programs.

Currently, the charity is running its annual Christmas Present Drive to spread holiday magic. They are collecting new, unwrapped gifts for children aged 0 to 18, including sensory toys, electronics, pajamas, and toiletries. Donations are distributed to GOSH and other partner charities to brighten the season for children in need. Supporters can contribute until December 7 by contacting the charity via their website or Instagram.
