Barnardo’s Supports POETs Day

Tuesday, 9th August 2016

Ann Little of the 150-year-old children’s charity Barnardo’s joined Gary Walker to talk about the charity’s important work with preventing child abuse and providing a safe caring environment to vulnerable children. Ann spoke about the  current threats of the internet and grooming and how the charity is working to combat this. She also addressed the resurfacing of historical cases, as result of the scandals surrounding entertainers of the seventies, and discussed the importance of learning from history.

Speaking on the Breakfast Show, Ann said: “Barnardo’s is one of the oldest childrens charities in the uk. We have vocational training, and cover a whole host of things. A lot of our projects are government funded, but obviously a lot of our projects aren’t, which is where my team come in, we work in fundraising, and are busy raising money to ensure that we can continue carrying out essential services.”

Joining them in the studio were Mark and Archie Brooks of the theatrical adventure POETS Day. The play has a theme relevant to vulnerable children and all profits from the performances will be donated to the charity.
